Moray Golf Club Lossiemouth are to host a screening of the film Ramsay MacDonald-From the Darknesss into the Light on Wednesday 18th November at 7pm. It had it's premiere screening in Lossiemouth in December 2024. It then toured throughout the UK to commemorate the centennial of his election in 1924 as the first Labour Prime Minister of Great Britain and received great interest among political historians when screened in Cambridge. This led to an invitation to return for a second screening with a panel of Cambridge political historians. The film has taken part in three festivals and been screened several times at events and theatres throughout the UK. It received an award from the Jennie S. Gordon Foundation for advancement of arts, heritage and culture. The film is based on the discovery of a box of family cine films in 2016 under the stairs of The Hillocks, Ramsay MacDonald’s Lossiemouth home. The cine reels had been filmed by Ramsay’s daughter Ishbel and the cine footage, combined with exclusive family photographs, provide fascinating insights into his remarkable life and times. Growing up in Lossiemouth Ramsay received an excellent Scottish education and the fishing community provided an enduring moral compass for his controversial life in politics. His compelling story is related by two of his grand-daughters and people of Moray. The documentary therefore aims to provide a more complete and balanced view of his life and legacy. Produced and directed in Moray by Yvonne M. Findlay in collaboration with the MacDonald family. Music is by Ivan Drever and Sonia Allori. Yvonne M. Findlay and Iona Kielhorn Ramsay MacDonald's Grand-Daughter shall introduce the film and take questions. Non Members of the Golf Club are welcome. Donations to the Event will be shared with Lossiemouth Fisheries and Community Museum and Lossiemouth Heritage Association.
