Who travels where, why, how and when?
Transport planners use movement data to understand where, when, why and how people travel, helping identify where transport improvements are needed. From bypasses and bus services to Heathrow expansion and HS2, data shapes transport investment decisions.
Over the past decade, mobile network data has revolutionised transport planning by providing much larger samples than traditional surveys. However, anonymisation can limit its accuracy in identifying travel modes, purposes and user characteristics.
This presentation introduces SANDI, an Amey-developed tool that enriches anonymised mobile network data using AI, Census data and the National Travel Survey.
Chartered transport planning professional, Tom van Vuren explores SANDI, transport modelling and analytics, and the growing role of AI and digital innovation in infrastructure planning, investment and delivery.
