Victorian Children at Work – Friday 4 Sept 2026
Please note this workshop will take place at Shropshire Archives, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury, SY1 2AQ
Join us for a series of engaging, hands-on history, science and art workshops designed especially for home educated children. Held in the inspiring setting of the museum, these sessions combine creativity, history, and fun learning experiences tailored to curious minds aged 5 and up.
Workshops start at 10.30am and finish at 12.00pm (please arrive 10 mins before the workshop begins to ensure a prompt start for the educator leading the session).
Step back in time to around 150 years ago and discover the everyday lives of children living in Shrewsbury and Telford during the Victorian period.
Children will investigate real individuals and discover how they spent their time and how their lives compare to their own today. They will look at photographs of working conditions, hear how individual children described their daily lives and even try on the clothes of a factory boy or pit bank girl.
