From the banks of the Han River comes one of the most distinctive monster films of the 21st century. In The Host, a mysterious creature emerges from the water and wreaks havoc on the city of Seoul, snatching a young girl and leaving her family to fight against both the beast and the authorities who seem more interested in control than rescue.
Blending creature feature thrills with sharp social commentary, Bong Joon-Ho crafts a film that moves seamlessly between horror, satire and family drama. At its centre is an unlikely group of underdogs, forced into action as they navigate government incompetence, media hysteria and their own personal failings in a desperate attempt to bring their daughter home.
At once gripping, darkly funny and politically charged, The Host reimagines the monster movie as something urgent and deeply human. A modern classic that demands to be experienced with an audience, where every shock, laugh and moment of tension hits that much harder on the big screen.
