Following their amazing performance of Die schöne Müllerin in 2021 Thomas and Daniel return to Wensleydale to perform Schubert's profound cycle of 24 songs based on poems by Wilhelm Müller in the 200th anniversary year of its composition.
Internationally acclaimed pianist Daniel Grimwood, who is no stranger to Wensleydale audiences, introduces the programme with Beethoven's final piano sonata marking the 200th anniversary year of the death of the composer.
Thomas Guthrie is a celebrated and wide-ranging artist - singer, fiddle player, director, composer/arranger - whose work spans opera, theatre, film and song. A former Jette Parker Young Artist Stage Director at the Royal Opera House, he directs productions internationally; meanwhile his recent film 'Polyphony' celebrating the Tallis Scholars has been widely praised. As a singer he has performed worldwide, including both staged and concert versions of Winterreise; the Sunday Times wrote of a reading 'audaciously expressive, chilling and thrilling', and BBC Radio 3 found it 'absolutely compelling'. His doctoral research at the University of York was on ornamentation in Schubert's Lieder, and his own arrangements of the Schubert cycles have been widely performed. He is founder and Artistic Director of the charity Music and Theatre for All.
