Vinegar Tom
The Platform Theatre @ Rugby College, Warwickshire, CV21 1AR
Thursday 26th November 2026 7:30PM
Caryl Churchill’s Vinegar Tom is a fierce, darkly comic play about women, power, fear and the stories society tells when it needs someone to blame.
Set around the witch hunts of 17th-century England, the play follows a group of women whose lives become tangled in poverty, sexuality, marriage, motherhood, religion and suspicion.
As ordinary hardship turns into accusation, the line between neighbour, outsider and “witch” begins to disappear.
Our production uses a bold physical style, chorus work, striking red-and-white imagery and original live music by Magindara to explore how quickly fear can become judgement and how easily women’s bodies, choices and independence can be turned against them.
