MATTHEW HAWKINS - READY
Wainsgate Chapel, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8SU
Sunday 24th May 2026
We are delighted to be hosting an icon of dance for a very special SUNDAY SESSION at Wainsgate on 24th May. Matthew Hawkins’ recent solo READY is a quiet, stripped-back work — a body, a CD player, a box of Beethoven sonatas - + tea and cake and a licensed bar
Made to happen almost anywhere, it unfolds as a kind of live thinking: listening, remembering, moving — shaped by a lifetime of dancing.
A work that speaks to decades of practice, to extraordinary attention to detail, and to a deep, accumulated technique held lightly and shared in real time.
Matthew Hawkins is a dancer, choreographer and teacher whose career spans over five decades — from early training at the Royal Ballet School to performing at Covent Garden, before stepping into an independent path.
A founding member of Michael Clark & Company, he has created over twenty works, led his own company, and collaborated widely across the UK and internationally.
His practice moves between performance, teaching and choreography — rooted in classical training but shaped by curiosity, experimentation and a lifelong engagement with movement.
