Step into a world of vivid musical images with Symphonic Pictures — a concert exploring three very different visions of orchestral colour, character and expression.
The programme opens with Webern’s Passacaglia, a compact but intensely atmospheric work that reveals a remarkable range of sound and emotion in just eleven minutes.
Ruth Gipps’s Horn Concerto follows, showcasing the expressive warmth and brilliance of the horn in a compelling concerto by one of Britain’s most distinctive twentieth-century composers.
The concert concludes with Mussorgsky’s much-loved Pictures at an Exhibition — a dazzling musical journey inspired by paintings and drawings, from the grandeur of the Great Gate of Kiev to the haunting mystery of The Old Castle and the playful bustle of The Market at Limoges.
Three composers. Three musical worlds. One unforgettable afternoon.
