Pirates of Penzance - Opera in a Box

In this play Shakespeare explores Love in all its guises.

Opera in a Box is an exciting opera company based in the South West of the UK, dedicated to making opera accessible, engaging, and unforgettable for all. With a focus on innovation, the company brings together talented young artists from across disciplines, creating powerful productions that break from the traditional opera experience. Performing in unexpected venues—from castles to village halls—Opera in a Box is redefining how audiences encounter opera, making it both intimate and thrilling.

For the first time, Opera in a Box turns from grand opera to Gilbert and Sullivan with The Pirates of Penzance. This much-loved comic opera follows Frederic, a young apprentice mistakenly bound to a band of tender-hearted pirates, as he navigates duty, love, and cowardly policemen. Opera in a Box’s creative team will bring this lively tale to the stage with wit and charm, highlighting its playful satire and memorable music.
This is an outdoor production, so please bring a chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather!
