UK-Japan Music Society

The UK-Japan Music Society was founded by Jonathan Gregory in 1992 after Japan Festival 1991, to promote friendship and goodwill through music and musical activities involving Japanese and British people, which was supported by the Embassy of Japan.

The UK-Japan Choir was established at the same time drawing singers from London and Cambridge, then from Leicestershire and north London.  The Japanese singers are mainly business people, students, and housewives, and the British and other non-Japanese singers are singers who have interest in Japan, and who understand international outlook of the choir. In 2017, Jonathan founded UK-Japan Consort, which is a group of young international musicians from Japan and UK, both singers and instrumentalists, who take part in concerts, and the Music Society supports their early careers and provide performance platforms.

Jonathan Gregory is a former Cathedral Organist, and he has conducted all major choral works including Bach passions, Handel Messiah, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Monteverdi's Vespers, Elgar's Apostles, Britten's War Requiem, in some prestigious locations.  He is a Fellow of
the Royal College of Organists, an Examiner for the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. He is a recipient of the distinguished honour of Order of Rising Sun from His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor of Japan in 2011.
