Renewal is a new dystopian drama set in a near-future Britain where citizens over seventy are invited to take part in “The Hour” - an immersive, state-run assisted death programme promising dignity, peace and closure. As the government prepares for its first nationally televised trial, political ambition, corporate influence and personal grief begin to collide.
At the centre of the programme is Arthur Halesworth, a retired teacher facing the end of his life, and Margaret, his wife of decades, who is left grappling with what it means to love someone choosing to leave early.
Moving between political thriller and intimate love story, Renewal asks urgent questions about healthcare, ageing, autonomy and the systems that shape how we die.
