Between Strands is a visually devised performance exploring memory, love, and loss through the symbolism of hair. Inspired by Taiwanese rituals and East Asian traditions, it follows a young woman in the UK after the death of her grandmother in Taiwan. More than a story of grief, the piece explores how hair becomes an emotional thread connecting them across distance, time, and memory. Through small acts — brushing hair, childhood games, and shared stories — the granddaughter gradually comes to understand that her grandmother has never truly left her. Combining movement, shadow play, Taiwanese and English dialogue, and live sound inspired by East Asian instruments, the piece creates a tender and intimate theatrical experience. Blending cultural specificity with universal emotion, Between Strands reflects on migration, family, and the invisible ties that continue to connect generations.
