A showcase of works by Margaret Holder, a Suffolk-based artist, educator, and maker.

“My creative practice is interdisciplinary and experimental, exploring themes rooted in the diaspora and colonisation. By using screen printing, photography, cyanotypes and textiles, I take a layered approach in my work. This showcase is an opportunity for me to reflect on my current practice.  It features photographic images, handmade books and textiles alongside workshops and drop-in sessions.”

A Windrush Story: Margaret met her grandmother for the first time when she travelled to Barbados as a young adult, where she was given a number of objects, letters and photographs that are explored here.  This is an ongoing project which touches on themes of memory, location, migration, the Black experience in Britain, while also collating, documenting and preserving heritage, histories, stories and voices.

Why Blue? As well as being her favourite colour since childhood, it makes direct and distinct links with colonialism and the African diaspora - Africa, the Caribbean and Britain. In Barbados, indigo and cotton were the largest exports* before sugar left another ingrained mark. Blue Notes is a creative response to a personal archive

All materials provided for all workshops. You may bring plants/flat objects to the Cyanotype Workshop.
