A greasy spoon cafe on its last legs, in the heart of Glasgow. Tilly works there. Francis finds himself there. Michelle is always there. Seeking more than just a coffee, Francis meets Michelle, and the two immediately do not hit it off. Navigating bad social skills, awkward conversations and uncomfortable silences, they each secretly hope to find commonality, in an increasingly isolating world.
The Usual is social commentary on the loss of community in working class areas, and the rise of loneliness, paired with the decline of mental health, in a post-Thatcher Britain.
