TRAC 2026 Webinar - Tuesday 12th May 2026, 17:00 BST

Hristijan Talevski, Institute of Paleo Slavic Culture – Prilep

The "Naked Archaeologist" concept integrates traditional and innovative methodologies to achieve
cognitive transparency in archaeology. This approach seeks to provide a more precise and more
comprehensive understanding of Roman material culture as an expression of human behavior within
specific landscapes. The primary contribution lies in demonstrating how archaeological data,
information, and reasoning can inform contemporary practices of living in harmony with nature. This
presentation introduces a computer-based framework - a network of cloud-oriented systems -
designed to connect diverse datasets - including coins, pottery finds, botanical finds, stratigraphic
units, and spatially exact landscape models - within a multidimensional virtual environment.
Facilitating open access to archaeological reasoning and primary data, the proposed system supports
transparent interpretation of Roman provincial life and settlement landscapes. The development
and implementation of this model necessitate a transdisciplinary team, including experts from the
formal, social, and natural sciences, to examine how Roman populations engaged with diverse
landscapes and managed natural resources to address existential challenges.

Hristijan Talevski is the Head of Laboratory for Archaeometry at the Public Research institution Institute of Old Slavic Culture - Prilep.
