Painting with Plants
Parklife Community Hub, Exeter, EX1 3DN
Monday 26th October 2026 2:45PM
Explore the creative possibilities of ordinary plants.
This workshop takes a moment to look at the colourful possibilities of the most ordinary plants. We’ll work with a simple ‘sketchbook’ folded from a single page, and take ourselves on a journey indoors and out (weather permitting) to explore eight different ways of making marks, textures and patterns, in and inspired by the natural world. We’ll work with inks made from local trees and garden vegetables, exploring a variety of techniques such as ‘wax resist’ and 'blowing', and experimenting with the marks we can make with different natural tools.
No drawing or painting skills necessary – this is a playful and experimental session and you’ll come away with a sketchbook filled with joyful colour and pattern!
This workshop lasts 75 minutes and is suitable for ages 5+, one of those moments when people of all ages can come together in collaboration. Children must be accompanied by an adult - please book a ticket for all who intend to participate*.
The workshop is hosted by Heavitree-based artist Megan Dowsett. Visit my website to find out more - thenaturedoodlesproject.co.uk
*If you're wondering whether to book a ticket for yourself ... The workshop is suitable for ALL ages 5+ AND I need to be sure that parents remain responsible for their children. So if you want to just support your child or sit back to give them independence, you don't need to book a ticket for yourself. If you'd like to work on your own 'sketchbook', please book for you! There is usually a mixture of adults taking part and not taking part, as well as a broad range of children :-)
