Duo Diesis #: Timeless Groove with a French Twist

Winton Thomas Recital Hall, Cambridge, CB2 7AD
Saturday 21st November 2026 7:00PM
Founded officially in May 2025, Duo Diesis # is the collaboration of pianists Sarah Chung and Pietro Vinciguerra, a dynamic ensemble devoted to the rich repertoire for piano four-hands and two pianos.

This program starts with the classics: Mozart and Mendelssohn. Both pieces feature brash, sudden contrasts between temperaments: Mozart's Sonata in C Major is an operatic journey oscillating between triumphant and lyrical motifs, while in Mendelssohn's Allegro Brillant, the passionate and lyrical opening melody bursts in an instant onto a playful and energetic play of notes.

After the break we step into the world of Faure and Koeshlin. Although both of these pieces are written by French composers, there is a common theme of childhood that is influenced by the composer's writing. Fauré wrote the pieces for Hélène Bardac, the young daughter of his close friend so there's an aspect of nostalgia of childhood laced throughout the 6 miniature pieces. The Koeshlin Suite for 4 hands is a set of pieces that are based on the reminiscence of childhood. The final piece being an extraordinary modern piece with fascinating improvisatory styled writing and polyrhythms throughout.
