Dumped on an island, with just the clothes on your back, a seemingly random collection of objects in front of you and 3 other people, what would you do? Do you switch into a one for all and all for one mentality? Would you run, hide or would you fight?
The Other Side is about selfishness and as humans, our desire for more.
It’s a reflection on our ability as humans to snatch, grab and look after yourself before considering others. It tackles themes of greed, our stubbornness in a world that need cooperation and empathy.
Come on the journey with the performers, that slides, crashes and leaps in a bid to get “the upper hand” before they realise that they will all only survive if they put difference aside and work this puzzle out together. Soon they will discover that the only way to succeed is by finding a way to cooperate, support each other and lift one another up.
Inspired by movement from contemporary dance and parkour, The Other Side is a full throttle, risk-taking experience dance performance with a powerful message it its core.
The Other Side has been supported by Art Council England and is inspire by the Leonardo Di Vinci Bridge kits curated by Imagineer Productions.
Ascension Dance produces work that unifies contemporary dance and a raw physicality to create visceral and striking visual illustrations. With a keen focus on human interactions and relationships, Ascension Dance pushes the boundaries of communication through high-velocity physical encounters, which soar, slide and crash in the pursuit of unravelling what it means to connect with the places and humans around us.
Running Time: 40 minutes, no interval
Suitable for all ages.
There will be a curtain raiser presented by Rugby School Dance students, choreographed by Motionhouse.
