Halesworth Music Collective: 80s Select - Slave to the Rhythm

Presented by Steve Garlick and Richard Stone.

As technology evolved throughout the 1980s musicians found different ways to combine performance, programming, sampling, studio manipulation and remixing to radically reshape popular music. Non mainstream genres such as Hip-hop, reggae, and electronica, were all hugely influential and arrived at some strikingly similar ideas from different musical traditions in asking questions not only about how music could be made , but who made, who controlled it  and how it could be experienced.

Steve & Richard will look at iconic, innovative and influential tracks presenting a spread of genres, contemplating the zeitgeist of a pivotal decade. Expect the well known and the less heard. Join us for synth spectacle, underground edges and glossy surfaces. The 80s return in wide-screen with all their colourful ambition and cultural noise.
