Welcome to our campaign to acquire and reopen the Amulet Theatre as a multi-purpose community venue in Shepton Mallet.
Designed in the bold brutalist style of the 1970s, the Amulet uses a unique moving floor to ingeniously transform from a 270 seat theatre to a 400 capacity dance hall, whilst being perfectly nestled right in the heart of Shepton Mallet town centre.
Originally built in 1975 as The Centre, the building was a gift to the town from the Showering Family. It operated as a popular venue and community centre for many years but has been in private ownership and largely out of public use since 2011.
Now the community has come together and formed a charitable community benefit society with a growing 300+ supporters who have subscribed for community shares in a bid to acquire and return the building to full community use. This exciting opportunity has the potential to transform the centre of the town and regenerate our high street. Find out more about this amazing building and our exciting plans on buytheamulet.org.uk and subscribe to our newsletter here.
