FROM THE SEA by Alex Oates
The Tute, Blyth, NE24 1QS
Friday 5th December 2025
Marjorie is a dedicated seal watcher. Since her husband passed away she spends her time patrolling the coastline making sure nobody gets too close to the marine life. One day her loneliness gets the better of her and when she encounters something other-worldly she takes him in. This new funny and moving play from Alex Oates will explore what it means to encounter people who come from the sea. It will also feature the stories of people with lived experience of asylum seeking and take a good look at why people choose to risk their lives to come here and how we treat them. It will be followed by a discussion with asylum experts and the artists. This new play will be developed over the week with director Amy Golding and shared as a work-in-progress on the Friday evening.
