Join author Norena Shopland for a talk about her latest book “My love all Love excels: The Remarkable Life and Times of 17th-Century Poet, Katherine Philips”.
Norena Shopland is a Welsh historian, writer and heritage specialist best known for her work in LGBTQ+ history.
The eponymous Katherine Philips was a ground breaking seventeenth-century poet: the first woman to have a play commercially produced, a Civil War writer of distinction, and among the earliest female poets to write openly of same-sex attraction.
Long ignored by historians and side lined for her reputation for female affection, after her death in 1664 she faded into obscurity. Rediscovered in the early twentieth century, her importance was only fully recognised decades later.
The talk has limited spaces so must be booked. There is no additional charge, however you must purchase general admission to Picton Castle & Gardens to attend. Admission must be purchased online, through our website or at the ticket office on arrival. There is no charge to those with a valid Picton Season Pass or Historic House Association Card.
