Neurodiversity and Classics: Running Inclusive Classics Trips

Online
Tuesday 17th November 2026 4:30PM
Designed specifically for Classics educators, this online CPD series, led by Emily Rushton, provides practical, evidence-based strategies to create neuroinclusive Classical Subjects classrooms. Across six targeted sessions, you will explore how to adapt Key Stage curricula, design accessible educational trips, and tailor instruction for students with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, and working memory differences. From adjusting day-to-day Latin and Classical Civilisation pedagogy to exploring myth through a neurodiverse lens, this course empowers teachers to remove learning barriers and ensure every student can thrive in Classics.

Emily Rushton is a doctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge and a passionate neuroaffirmative education consultant. She is experienced in both senior and trust level school leadership in SEND, as well as having taught Classics in both primary and secondary phases across state and independent schools. Emily has worked with diverse communities to create inclusive, empowering learning environments, bringing a unique blend of professional expertise and lived experience as a neurodiverse person. Her work has been recognised nationally, winning a NASEN award and being shortlisted for a TES award. Her doctoral research uses classical mythology as a creative tool to promote inclusion.

Session 2: Tuesday 17th November: Running Inclusive Classics Trips, 4:30-6pm

Educational visits to museums and archaeological sites offer powerful learning opportunities, but they can present unique sensory and executive function challenges. Learn how to plan, risk-assess, and execute accessible local and overseas Classics trips that accommodate processing differences, routine changes, and mobility requirements.

This series will run over 6 dates. You can sign up to attend individual sessions, or join us for the whole course.

These sessions will be recorded and made available to those that register.
