John Nugent, Empire Magazine, 5/5 -A worthy new translation of an ancient text, and yet another monumental piece of work from one of our boldest filmmakers. Watch it on the most colossal screen you can find.
Kevin Maher, The Times (UK), 5/5 -The imagery from the film’s cinematographer, Hoyte van Hoytema, is gasp-inducingly beautiful, often golden-hued but also, again, stirringly real.
Philip De Semlyen, Time Out, 5/5 -Watching The Odyssey, you sometimes wonder how anyone survived. They did, and the results are mythical.
Hannah Strong, Little White Lies, 5/5 -The richness of The Odyssey is found in its metatextuality, both as a translation of Homer’s text and as a translation from word to image. Increasingly the value of words is decimated; a film like this seems to emphasise their importance more than ever.
