A Beginners Guide to Archives

Interested in archives but not sure where to start? This friendly session explains what archives are, how they differ from libraries, and how we organise and care for the records we hold. You’ll learn how catalogues work, what to expect in a searchroom, and how to prepare for a visit. Using examples, our archivist will show you how to navigate collections of all kinds — with plenty of time for questions so you can feel confident about how to begin. No experience needed.
