Come and Sing: Works by Mendelssohn

Southwell Minster (Nave), Southwell, NG25 0HD
Monday 31st August 2026
Singers from Nottinghamshire and beyond are invited to join us for our annual Come and Sing. Open to all abilities, we will come together to sing Mendelssohn’s iconic anthem “Hear my prayer”, with its famous solo section “O for the wings of a Dove”. This is a rare opportunity to hear this piece with full orchestral accompaniment. Alongside this, we’ll work on another of Mendelssohn’s beautiful choral works “Verleih uns Frieden” and "Blessed are the men that fear him" from the oratorio Elijah.  Copies of the music can be found here.

Led by conductor Marcus Farnsworth, there will be a morning rehearsal followed by an afternoon performance, accompanied by the Festival Sinfonia and soloists from our Vocal Apprentice scheme.

For a more detailed look at the music and a deep-dive into singing technique, you can also choose to attend an additional Singing Day on Saturday 22nd August.

There are three ticket options:

1. Come & Sing on 31 August PLUS Singing Workshop Day on 22 August (£30)
2. Come and Sing on 31 August only (£20)
3. Singing Workshop Day 22 August only (£20)

Pre-booking is essential: no performer tickets will be available on the door.
