Continuing Professional Development for practical, evidence-informed Modern Foreign Languages teaching
How can we help pupils move from understanding language to using it confidently, accurately and independently?
Join Dr Gianfranco Conti, internationally recognised language educator and creator of Extensive Processing Instruction (EPI), for a practical professional development day exploring how research into language acquisition can inform effective classroom practice.
Drawing on Cognitive Science and Applied Linguistics, Dr Conti will explore the journey from input to fluent output, considering how teachers can support pupils to process and retain language before moving towards increasingly confident and independent communication.
Across three focused sessions, participants will examine effective approaches to listening and reading, the progression from guided speaking and writing to fluency, and evidence-based approaches to grammar instruction.
Throughout the day, research-informed principles will be translated into practical strategies and activities that teachers can take back to the classroom.
The event is designed for Modern Foreign Languages teachers, Heads of Department and curriculum leaders looking to develop effective, research-informed approaches to language teaching.
Programme
Listening and Reading for Learning
2 hours
Speaking and Writing: From Guided Output to Fluency
2.5 hours
Evidence-Based Grammar Instruction
1 hour
Morning and afternoon breaks will also be included. Light lunch provided.
