A Year in the Garden with Matthew Rice

From the Cotswolds garden of renowned artist and bestselling author Matthew Rice comes A Year in the Garden: an inspiring year-round guide to gardening and enjoying nature more fully.

In 2012 Matthew bought Ham Court: a sprawling estate in Bampton built around fragments of the medieval Bampton Castle, complete with an orchard, paddock, greenhouse and small farmyard. In his book, he documents a typical year spent tending it: the planning, planting, harvesting, with the inevitable setbacks, alongside personal anecdotes, practical advice and recipes for making the most of seasonal produce. Whatever the size of your own garden, the challenges and joys he describes will feel familiar.

Matthew is best known for his instantly recognisable illustrations, including his long-running collaboration with potter Emma Bridgewater, and this book captures the same charm and detail on the page.

Join Matthew for an autumn morning as he shares the daily rhythms and hard-won wisdom of life at Ham Court and you’ll leave with plenty of seasonal tips and inspiration for your own garden.
