Shepton Mallet Big Band
The Shepton Mallet Big Band was established more than 35 years ago, when what started as a local saxophone jazz quartet specialising in music from the 30s, 40s and 50s, grew into a Big Band.
The band today is a vibrant group of about 25 enthusiastic musicians in a standard line-up of saxophone, trumpet and trombones, with guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocalists. Our repertoire includes music from the golden big band era of the 1940s, including Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Louis, Ella and Sinatra, iconic music from the shows and movies and contemporary funk and soul style music such as pieces by Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and Imelda May. The members are keen to bring live instrumental and vocal music of all kinds to everyone.
We perform regularly at local public and private events. Recent performances include: The Wells Jazz and Blues Festival, Shepton Literally festival, The Royal Bath and West Show, Shepton Mallet Collett Park Day, the 2024 Glastonbury Extravaganza supporting headliners Keane and recently supporting the let's buy the Amulet campaign with a concert as part of their pop up events series.
We welcome enquiries from event organisers and local musicians wishing to join the band. You can find the Shepton Mallet Big Band on Face book and Instagram and there are videos of some of our performances on YouTube.
