Rob Luft Trio
Crookes Social Club, South Yorkshire, S10 1TD
Thursday 13th May 2027 8:00PM
Rob Luft – Guitar
Anders Jormin – Double-bass
Jon Fält - Drums
Rob Luft and his Scandinavian trio play tracks from their radiant and quietly bold new album on the legendary ECM label.
Rob Luft was recently named 'Instrumentalist of the Year' at the British Parliamentary Jazz Awards. He is set to release his debut ECM album as a bandleader, an album that promises to be a slowly unfolding soundscape of beauty, a prism turning in sunlight.
Joined by Anders Jormin and Jon Fält, he refracts the voices of ECM guitar greats such as Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell and John Abercrombie into a vivid new spectrum. Their influence is not echoed but scattered into fresh colours, each composition catching the light at a different angle.
Having previously appeared on multiple albums on ECM Records as a sideman with Brit-jazz legend John Surman and Balkan jazz vocalist Elina Duni, Luft now steps forward with a voice unmistakably his own. His crystalline guitar sound forms the prism’s core, glass-clear and constantly shifting, revealing unexpected hues with each turn.
Anders Jormin brings his deeply lyrical bass playing and decades of ECM experience, anchoring the music with gravity and grace.
Jon Fält’s drumming is at once textural and playful, adding a restless, searching quality to the trio’s flowing interplay.
