Ten Times Table, by Alan Ayckbourn

The local worthies of Pendon are planning a local ‘folk fayre’. They dredge up the village’s agricultural past to re-enact the martyrdom of the Pendon Twelve, purportedly massacred during an agricultural revolt in the seventeenth century. Fractious preparations for this historical pageant escalate into a present-day political committee-room battle between right- and left-wing ideologues. Conflicts about ill-fitting costumes and a ‘stylised’ horse eventually erupt into a theatrical free-for-all, as fayre descends into farce.
