Race Awareness: Foundations of Allyship (Part 1)

Online
Tuesday 20th October 2026
The 2025 UK games industry census points in a troubling direction: the proportion of people from non-white backgrounds in the industry has fallen since the 2022 census.
For the Black and otherwise minoritised colleagues who remain, that can be deeply isolating, and in teams with few or no colleagues of colour, the issue can feel invisible until something happens. When it does, teams often want to help but simply do not know how.

Safe In Our World is working with Action for Race Equality (ARE) to facilitate a two-part training programme that's designed to be warm, honest, and above all: solution-focused. In this 1h webinar (incl. Q&A), expert trainer and training designer Tebussum Rashid will help you build strong foundations of allyship, gain a clearer sense of how behaviour can land, and develop the confidence to take the first steps as an ally.

Key Takeaways:
  • Power: Understanding power, holding power and using power in an inclusive transparent way
  • What's allyship: Allyship without saviourism looks like, the bystander effect, privilege and responsibility
  • Tangible steps: What individuals and employers can start doing  plus signposting to resources
This session is for:
  • Games industry professionals
  • Individuals in "middling" roles: Line managers, HR, people in positions to advocate for policy and shape culture
  • Anyone who wants to learn about how they can become a better ally for Black and otherwise minoritised people

This is a two-part programme. Race Awareness: From Awareness to Action (Part 2) will be hosted on 17 November at 10AM (GMT) and is a deeper, interactive session is built around scenarios and small-group work. Because it surfaces opinions and sensitive discussion, this second session is designed to be safe for candid participation and will not be recorded. To get notified when bookings open for Part 2, simply sign up to receive updates about our TicketSource page when checking out.

Safe In Our World's Level Up Mental Health partners get exclusive on-demand access to training recordings. Learn more at safeinourworld.org/level-up.
