The Uprising (15)
Richard Booth Bookshop Cinema, Hay-on-Wye, HR3 5BQ
Saturday 7th November 2026 4:30PM
Director: Paul Greengrass
Cast: Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell, Cosmo Jarvis, Woody Norman, Thomasin McKenzie, Tom Hollander, Stephen Dillane, Jonny Lee Miller, Katherine Waterston, Stanley Townsend, Sky Yang
England, 1381. The Black Death has devastated the countryside, and the crown is bleeding the surviving working class dry to fund its foreign wars. When a grieving field hand retaliates against brutal royal tax collectors, a single act of defiance sparks a nationwide wildfire. Suddenly leading an army of radical preachers, destitute farmers, and outlaws, he heads an unprecedented march straight to the gates of London to confront the teenage King Richard II. As the capital’s defences buckle, a desperate cry for justice spirals into an all-out bloodbath—where the line between righteous revolution and mob rule entirely disappears.
"A blood-boiling historical drama that spirals quickly and with abandon." - Empire
"The pacing is often thrilling, and the depiction of the King’s council is suitably boo-hiss repellent — step forward Tom Hollander as the treasurer Robert Hales." - The Times
