The Hardest Bridge Screening and Discussion - Restorative Justice Week

Institute of Criminology, Lower Ground Floor, Room B3/B4, Cambridge, CB3 9DA
Friday 20th November 2026
The Justice and Society Research Centre at the Institute of Criminology invite Cambridge students and staff to a screening of The Hardest Bridge, followed by a discussion with the film's director, Dr Imad Karam.

The documentary tells the story of Jo Berry, whose father was killed in the 1984 Brighton bombing, and Pat Magee, the IRA volunteer responsible for planting the bomb. Years later, after a loss that could never be undone, the two chose to meet. What followed was not a search for closure, nor a straightforward story of forgiveness, but a relationship shaped by difficult conversations, persistent disagreement, curiosity, and a willingness to confront the human consequences of political violence.

Following the screening, Dr Imad Karam, an award-winning British-Palestinian filmmaker, will discuss the making of the film and the questions that continue to shape it. There will also be an opportunity for audience members to take part in an open Q&A and contribute to the discussion.

Refreshments will be provided.
