Creative Writing Workshop for Children P5-P7 led by Arlene Pattison

Chandler's House, Rathfriland, BT34 5PT
Saturday 6th June 2026
Bring your children along for a fun and inspiring workshop where Arlene will gently guide them through the creative process of writing stories and poetry. With her encouragement and support, children will have the opportunity to explore their imagination, express their thoughts and feelings, and develop their confidence as young writers.

Arlene Pattison is a writer and creative educator from Rathfriland. Specialising in poetry, she facilitates creative writing workshops for people of all ages and levels of experience. Her Aye Write project focuses on providing engaging and enjoyable creative sessions that prioritise accessibility and provide a welcoming starting point to anyone who wants to write, regardless of ability.
In her work with young people across Northern Ireland, Arlene promotes creative self-expression, wellness, and the joy of language, incorporating visual arts and music. She is passionate about local history and often uses the rich literary heritage of her homeplace as a source of inspiration.
Arlene leads several writing classes, arts festival workshops, after-school clubs, and creative sessions within Health & Social Care settings.  She also runs regular children’s literary events in the forest parks of Newry, Mourne & Down and has recently produced a poetry anthology and award-winning podcast with the Youth Engagement Service’s Creative Minds ASD group.
Putting children at the heart of Rath Literary Festival, together we are reaching out to local schools and encouraging children to tell stories, write poetry, and have fun with words through a guided competition and fun creative workshops.
Adults with an interest in writing are very welcome to join Rathfriland Writers’ Group (Rathfriland Library) for a cup of tea and the opportunity to explore their interest in a friendly, low-pressure environment.
