The Dresser by Ronald Harwood

The Dresser is a wonderfully affectionate and intelligent play about the theatre.  It captures not only the relationship between star and dresser, it also coveys the bitchiness and sentiment of the backstage world that is itself a little kingdom.  Made into a film in 1983 with Tom Courtney and Albert Finney and also by the BBC in 2015 with Ian McKellen and Anthony Hopkins, this play is well loved by generations of audiences.
