Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators - Webinar IV: Mandarin Spotlight

Online
Wednesday 9th December 2026
All teachers of Mandarin in the UK are invited to join this free webinar. In this session, we will focus on the competition phase of the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators.

The Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators is a national translation competition run by the Queen's Translation Exchange at the University of Oxford. Through the year, registered teachers receive creative teaching resources for Mandarin (amongst other languages). These teaching packs are designed to help teachers bring creative translation into the MFL classroom as well as to help students prepare for the competition task. The Prize is open to all UK students aged 11-18. In 2026-2027, the competition will run over several weeks from Monday 25 January to Friday 19 March 2027. Teachers can register at any time at this link.

This webinar will explore how teachers can engage young language learners through creative translation, bring literature into the classroom, and prepare students for the Anthea Bell Prize translation competition through our Mandarin teaching resources. All Mandarin teachers are welcome to join this webinar, whether or not you have already engaged with the Prize.

This is the first webinar we are hosting for Mandarin teachers this academic year. Each session focusses on different aspect of the Prize, covering the resources and the competition. All teachers are welcome to attend this webinar.

The Mandarin strand of the Prize is generously supported by the Swire Chinese Language Foundation.
