Multilateralism is in crisis and international institutions are gridlocked. Accomplishing global climate action in a world of Trumps, Bolsonaros and Orbans is hugely difficult. Yet, a global campaign coordinated by a QUB alumna is phasing out international financing for fossil fuels amongst its 40 members (including Canada, the UK, Australia and many EU countries), shifting billions of pounds a year out of fossil fuels and into clean energy. The ‘Clean Energy Transition Partnership’ campaign points the way to achieving climate goals in a polarised world - ‘minilateralism’ rather than multilateralism, where coalitions of likeminded countries accomplish goals together.J oin former QUB student and award-winning campaign strategist Adam McGibbon to discuss the CETP campaign, ‘minilateralism’ and how far this concept can go to prevent the worst excesses of climate change.
