Portsmouth Choral Union

Welcome To Portsmouth Choral Union
The Portsmouth Choral Union is one of the leading amateur choruses in the South of England. The choir was founded in 1880 as the Portsmouth Temperance Choral Union and is looking forward to celebrating 150 years of music making in 2030!

The musical direction of the choir is lead by distinguished conductor David Gostick, who has extended the repertoire to cover most of the established choral masterpieces, as well as a range of contemporary works. These include a new commission written by Ian Schofield: Te Deum (2000). More recently the choir performed Goodall: Eternal Light (2018) and Bernstein: West Side Story Choral Suite (2019): Bach, Christmas Oratorio (2021): Rachmaninov Vespers (2022), Chilcott:  St John Passion (2024), Durufle: Requiem (2024), Todd: Passion Music (2025), Vaughan-Williams: Toward the Unknown Region (2026).
