1816: The Year Without a Summer. Trapped by storms at Lord Byron’s villa on Lake Geneva, a gathering of remarkable young writers – Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley and their friends – pass the dark evenings with ghost stories. When Byron famously challenges his guests to create tales of terror, the eighteen-year-old Mary Shelley experiences a startling vision that sparks an extraordinary idea.

As the company bring her story to life through the kind of home theatricals popular in the Regency period, the audience is drawn into the unfolding drama of Victor Frankenstein and his tragic creation. Blending historical events with theatrical imagination, Frankenstein: The Making of a Monster celebrates the birth of Mary Shelley’s masterpiece and the moment that gave the world not only Frankenstein, but the horror genre itself.

A dynamic, fascinating drama, with a captivating insight into how the gothic horror classic came to be written by local teen legend, Mary Godwin aka Shelley.
