Hinchingbrooke House Ghost Tour

Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon, PE29 3BN
Friday 18th March 2022
Dating back almost a 1,000 years, Huntingdon’s Hinchingbrooke House is certainly a place of historical interest.     Charles 1st and Elizabeth 1st have both spent the night here at Hinchingbrooke, as has the Scottish King James 1st, who was a regular visitor to Hinchingbrooke.  The property was once owned by the local Cromwell family, before being sold on to the Montagu’s (the Earl’s of Sandwich), who made Hinchingbrooke their family home for the best part of 350 years.   The diarist Samuel Pepys was another regular visitor; in fact some of the entries to his famous diaries were made here at Hinchingbrooke.  Since 1970 the house has served as a working school and was described by ‘The Times’ newspaper as “The most beautiful Comprehensive school in the whole of England”.

During 2022 Hinchingbrooke will be opening its doors to the general public for a whole evening (from 7.30pm to 11.30pm).   The evening will be hosted by Mark Egerton, local historian and author of “The Haunted Historian of Huntingdonshire”.    Mark will conduct guided tours of the house and share with you the buildings fascinating history and secrets, including rooms that are not generally available to the general public.   Mark will also share stories of the buildings many Ghosts, Myths and Legends, including ghostly tales of Nuns, Monks, and of course Hinchingbrooke’s very own ‘White Lady’ ghost.  Refreshments and other entertainment will also be provided, in what promises to be a very interesting, spooky and memorable evening.

There will be a licensed bar available to ticket holders.

*Due to the nature of the tour and the age of the House unfortunately many of the areas within the venue are not suitable for wheelchair access.
