Lancashire Sinfonia presents 'Dreams of Winter'

Jonathon Lee Brooks - Conductor
Vincent Yip - Leader

Dvořák - A Heros Song
Tchaikovsky - Nutcracker Suite
Tchaikovsky - Symphony No.1, 'Winter Daydreams'

Lancashire Sinfonia welcomes you back to celebrate a new concert season coming into these winter months, bringing the magic of musical story telling to life.

A Heros Song is Dvořáks last piece before focusing his compositions into Opera. He writes this as a Symphonic Poem which paints musical landscapes of strength, suffering, hope, struggle and triumph, envisioning a spiritual Hero.

The Nutcracker Suite is selections from Tchaikovsky's Ballet The Nutcracker. This piece when premiered wasn't such a hit straight away, but has become one that has caught the ears and hearts of many over the years. We have the Celeste capturing the very essence of the Sugar Plum Fairy; the victorious and playful galloping during Trepak and so much more.

Symphony No.1 ,'Winter Daydreams'  is Tchaikovsky's first symphony, one that many possibly will not know. This Symphony blends beautiful harmonies, delightful Russian Folk melodies and enticing lyricism within the orchestras instrumentation, transporting the audience into 1880s Russia. This piece is highly regarded as his first notable works, one being the idea of Symphonic structures which he later goes onto explore in his later works. His truly characterful writing becomes a breathtaking charm.
