Deiseil: Dancing in Time (Scottish Tour 2026)
Old School Thornhill (OST), Thornhill, DG3 5DF
Saturday 5th September 2026
A powerful exploration of how stepdance, Scotland's percussive dance, was lost to us... and how its revival, drawn from Cape Breton Nova Scotia, became woven into lifelong friendship. A compelling journey across centuries of tradition told through fiddle, feet, Gaelic song and story, in an immersive performance which draws you into the heart of a rich heritage.
Deiseil means “ready” in Scottish Gaelic: be ready for a mesmerising reflection on how issues of culture, identity and connection still resonate through society today. Groundbreaking new work from award-winning director Gerry Mulgrew (six Fringe Firsts), dancer Alison Carlyle and musician Amy Geddes.
We are delighted to be joined for the post-show Q&A by Emily Smith, singer/songwriter and Gaelic Development Officer at Dumfries & Galloway Council.
The show received standing ovations at sold out performances at Edinburgh Fringe '25 and Celtic Connections '26.
"Joyous and educational - such an untold Scottish story. This deserves a wider audience!" - Audience Member
"The most joyful show... tells an important story with the lightest of touches and doesn't put a foot wrong." - The Scotsman *****
