Tim Kliphuis Trio celebrates its 20th Anniversary with George Gershwin’s landmark hit in a masterful new version

Come and celebrate midsummer at St Cadog's Church, Llangadog, with the internationally acclaimed Tim Kliphuis Trio! Revd Jeff Thomas and the congregation warmly welcome the Trio back to the village, following their sell-out concert here in 2024 — and what better way to mark the longest days of the year than an evening of dazzling music.

Just over 100 years ago, George Gershwin composed Rhapsody in Blue for the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, blending elements of classical, jazz and blues. This iconic piece opened up a new era in America's musical history and remains one of the most recognisable compositions in the world today.

To mark 20 years of touring together, Tim Kliphuis and his Trio present a brand-new, virtuosic Rhapsody that swings, grooves and dazzles. With their trademark high-octane sound, the three musicians play the roles of both orchestra and soloist, reviving the free-flowing improvisational spirit that Gershwin's timeless melodies so richly deserve.

Paired with the Rhapsody is the Trio's much-loved arrangement Hoedown for the Common Man — performed with orchestras across the world — celebrating the music of another great American composer, Aaron Copland. Rounding off the programme, the Trio also play a selection of Gershwin gems: It Ain't Necessarily So, I Got Rhythm and They Can't Take That Away from Me, in a solo guitar setting.

Over their 20-year career the Tim Kliphuis Trio has delighted audiences across this area and far beyond. Recent highlights include a Royal State Visit to Sweden and collaborations with the Netherlands and Tallinn Chamber Orchestras and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Their Sony recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons reached number one on the iTunes charts.

This special midsummer concert is a fundraiser for St Cadog's Church, Llangadog. There will be refreshments, bar and raffle. All donations are greatly appreciated and will go towards the running, upkeep and restoration of the Church. Thank you.
