Be a Councillor - North Somerset
North Somerset Council Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1UJ
Saturday 14th November 2026
Have you ever thought about representing your local community and influencing decisions that are made locally? With local elections taking place in May 2027 for all councillor seats on North Somerset Council, now is a great time to find out more about what's involved.
This is the second of two 'Be a Councillor' events being organised by North Somerset Council which will give you all the information you need to help you decide whether to stand for election to the council next year. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you have about the process of standing for election and what it's like being a councillor.
The event will be hosted by our chief executive Mandy Bishop, joined by a panel made up of councillors from all six political groups on North Somerset Council - including an independent councillor. We will also have someone from the Local Government Association at the session with a wealth of advice and experience from councils across the country.
When you have registered to attend we will email you before the day with more information about the event. You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions in advance as well as on the day.
The event will end at 12.30pm, but there will be a 30-minute networking opportunity afterwards for anyone who wants to stay a while longer and discuss things informally.
