Thomas Franks Foundation Initiative

NLCS Dining Hall, Stanmore, HA8 4SQ
Wednesday 28th October 2026
We are delighted to let you know that once again we are partnering with our school caterers, Thomas Franks, and offering another 'Feeding Communities' Initiative during October half-term.

On Tuesday 27th October and Wednesday 28th October, we will be opening our doors to members of our school community - students, staff, and family members - to take part in a meaningful, hands-on volunteer project. Participants will be able to sign up for a two-hour slot to help portion, package, and label meals that will be delivered to individuals and communities who need them most.  This opportunity is open to students in Year 4 and above.

This initiative forms part of the work led by the Thomas Franks Foundation, whose mission includes reducing food waste and supporting vulnerable groups of people. You can read more about their work here: thethomasfranksfoundation.org.
Last year we ran two highly successful trial afternoons with students in Year 7 and 8, during which over 2,000 meals were prepared for redistribution.  Following this we ran two full days open to the community during February half-term and sent over 4000 meals into the community. These meals compromised of food that would otherwise have gone to landfill. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved so far and are excited to offer this opportunity once more.

We would be delighted if you, your daughter, and any interested family members would like to be involved. All are welcome, and no prior experience is needed - just enthusiasm and a willingness to make a difference.

We will be able to accommodate approximately 12 people per 2-hour slot (9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1-3pm) across the 2 days.  We therefore hope to involve approximately 60 members of the community over the two days.  Please note that Junior School students need to be accompanied by an adult; please therefore sign up for two slots.
