Feast on the Farm - Our Daily Bread

Wichenford Farm, Wichenford, WR6 6YY
Monday 9th November 2026
Bread is a staple of diets around the world. In its simplest form, flour, water, salt and yeast come together to make a nutritious food which can sustain us. However in recent decades the bread we eat in the western world has changed and the bread we find on the shelves of our supermarkets contains many more ingredients, moving it far away from the 4 ingredient staple of our ancestors.

Join us at Wichenford Farm where we will unpick bread and grains in this lunchtime foray into the world of wheat!

Through a series of talks and a farm walk, we will learn the history of wheat and grains, how have we got here? How is wheat grown in this country and how are farmers trying to grow and mill it sustainably? How can our choices around the bread and grains we eat have an impact on the health of the climate and ourselves? And finally, how can we incorporate more whole grains and flours into our diet and support those who are farming more sustainably?

A delicious seasonal soup (and of course bread!) will be served for lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Feast on the Farm - Our Daily Bread is an event delivered by Herefordshire Food Alliance in collaboration with the West Midlands Grain Network. The event is one of a series of Feasts on the Farm events organised by Herefordshire Food Alliance and funded by National Lottery Awards for All.
