About the Artists:
Sonja Ahlers is a poet and collage artist  from the unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) speaking peoples, now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations (Victoria, BC, Canada). She has produced dozens of handmade zines and several published books. 1994’s A Wandering Eye was the first of many self-published books that circulated mainly through the underground “penpal” network of DIY punk rock and Riot Grrrl zines. Ahlers attracted national attention with Temper, Temper, published by Insomniac Press in 1998, followed by Fatal Distraction in 2004. In 2010, Drawn & Quarterly published The Selves, and in 2021, Conundrum Press published Swan Song. Ahlers’ art has been exhibited across Canada, as well as in the United States, Japan, and Australia. She helped create the visual identity of Rookie Mag and from 2011 to 2015 and was a frequent contributor to the influential online publication, as well as lead artist/designer of its four print anthologies.

Carrie Walker’s work is strongly rooted in drawing. She also works as an art educator guiding students through many forms of two dimensional art-making.
"I am a visual artist who can’t stay away from words. This entanglement has led me to create zines, artist books and countless drawings with titles that are too long. My work explores the relationship between human and non-human animals by examining how animals are represented in science, popular culture and art. To that end, I use drawing, photography and video, as well as found and appropriated materials.Humour and playfulness are a vital part of my work. I have a side interest in nominative determinism and have explored aspects of my name and its consequences in works like, The Carrie Walker Project. I am currently working on a series of drawings of the large sticks that my small dog carries home from the park. You can view my dog’s antics online @guesswithsticks. I currently reside on the territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən people (aka Victoria, Canada)."
