Weekend with Wajda: Sir Thaddeus (Pan Tadeusz) – 1999

Young Tadeusz Soplica returns to his family estate in Russian-ruled Lithuania in 1811–1812. A long feud between the Soplica and Horeszko families, old love affairs, and the mysterious monk Father Robak (Tadeusz’s hidden father) complicate life. Local tensions explode into a chaotic fight that draws in Russian forces. The film ends with reconciliation, Tadeusz’s engagement to Zosia, and the characters leaving to join Napoleon’s campaign against Russia.
