Waking The Witch
Dumfries Museum, Dumfries, DG2 7SW
Monday 18th May 2026
The dark days of the witch trials left a powerful mark on the town of Dumfries… At the height of the persecutions, at least 78 people were accused of witchcraft, with many more affected in the wider region.
Join award-winning storytellers, Mostly Ghostly, as they reawaken a collection of historical, thought-provoking accounts, through layers of rich narrative and first-hand dramatisations, exploring cases of alleged witchcraft and their devastating human consequences…
This tour takes place on the anniversary of a dark chapter in Dumfries’s history — 18 May 1671 — when two women were executed on charges of witchcraft. A surviving manuscript held at Dumfries Museum records the order for their execution.
